Perhaps the memory of the Maya is carefully hidden in the current Maya theology? They may have woven their ancient myths and histories into their forced Roman religion, that being a largely oral tradition.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1803692031878771328.post-66561227424775287222010-01-04T08:11:15.140-08:002010-01-04T08:11:15.140-08:00What it reminds me of is that scene played mlany t...What it reminds me of is that scene played mlany times on the History Channel where the Nazis are marching around in a circle and throwing books on a bonfire. I don't know how many books there were to burn when the Taliban took over Afghanistan, but I do recall that they went out of their way to erase everything but their own art and literature -- I don't remember the name of the statue, but they blew up a huge image, Buddhist, Hindu, or something like that, despite pleas from the world not to destroy the ancient artifact.MARCO POLOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14517173479873211518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1803692031878771328.post-1239991406262009192010-01-04T08:04:30.824-08:002010-01-04T08:04:30.824-08:00I guess nobody on this side of the world thought a...I guess nobody on this side of the world thought about the fact that it wasn't just a history of the Iraqi people, but that Mesopotamia is called the Cradle of Western Civilization. Gees, last I heard that included most Americans. So I guess we created a scenario in which we burned up irreplaceable books and antiquities from our own ancient past.VISITOR FROM MARShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07818411178960457503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1803692031878771328.post-48017101962211436162010-01-04T07:55:06.567-08:002010-01-04T07:55:06.567-08:00Reading how over zealous priests burned the writte...Reading how over zealous priests burned the written record of an entire civilization, reminds me that not much has changed. It was just a few years ago that our military ignored warnings from archaeologists that an effort must be made to protect the Iragi museum and library where ancient manuscripts were stored. No effort was made, the museum was looted, and the great library went up in flames.WAR MAIDENhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16632707800173011887noreply@blogger.com
